Global Health Education

Physicians are expected to deal with any disease affecting the health of their individual patients. Tomorrow’s 21st century physicians must also have sufficient understanding of the complex interplay across all determinants of health affecting the health of patients and societies.

This workshop will examine the challenges of globalization and health and prioritize those that should be included in a worldwide harmonized global health curriculum.

Role of Private Sector in Universal Health Coverage

Universal Health Coverage has received considerable attention at a global stage, particularly within the debate of the post-2015 development goals. But to exert its full power it has to be understood in a way that points beyond the health sector and beyond matters of financing.

The topic concerns more than just health insurance and health systems. The solution lies in an expression of the social contract between a government and its people for the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health and the commitment to health equity and health as a human right.

"Lessons from Fukushima and the Role of Medical Academia”: Three years after the disasterous accident in the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011, health hazards to the public still remain. Furthermore, the immediate risks of injury and death are shadowed by various longer term problems including anxiety about possible physical effects of exposure to radiation.

This session will review the recent tragedy and its ongoing consequences as a platform to highlight the role of medical academia.
