At the Closing Ceremony of the World Health Summit Regional Meeting, the M8 Alliance issued a declaration calling for joint action among health experts and stakeholders worldwide.

On May 23, the World Health Organization elected a new Director General - Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus >
He was nominated by the Government of Ethiopia and will begin his five-year term on July 1, 2017. Prior to his election, Ghebreyesus served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and as Minister of Health in Ethiopia.

On the occasion of the World Health Summit Regional Meeting in Montreal, the M8 Alliance > accepted Istanbul University > as its 25th member.
The university was established in 1453, has seventeen faculties on five campuses and hosts about 100,000 students.
