Newsletter 02/2022: Security and Global Health

Dear friends,

We are experiencing sad times - for Europe, for the world and for humanity. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is one of the worst security crises in Europe in decades.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called it “the saddest moment” of his tenure. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen vowed the EU would respond forcefully. Innocent people, von der Leyen said, “are dying of fear for their lives.”

In various emergency meetings, the EU, the G7, the US and the allies and partners announced severe sanctions.

We are all deeply shocked by the violent developments in the Ukraine. Aggression and war are destroying the basis for life wherever they occur. Global health requires respecting international rules and avoiding military offensives everywhere!

Security is and remains a central factor for global health. The whole global community must now stand together: In the name of humanity and peace.

Stay safe and healthy!
