Newsletter 01/2022: WHS 2022 - Joining Forces with WHO
|
Dear friends,
With the first month of the new year already behind us, I wish you all a happy and healthy 2022. This year offers another option and challenge to overcome the COVID pandemic, the vaccine inequity, and to make progress towards Health for All. It is our responsibility to take the opportunity.
This will be the driving force of the World Health Summit 2022 (October 16-18) - the first World Health Summit organized jointly with the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Summit and the WHO are joining forces to expand impact and reach of the summit – to foster global health. This year will be the inaugural event, and we plan to have joint summits every three years. The World Health Organization has been a strong strategic partner since the very beginnings of the World Health Summit and I personally thank Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, for his continued support as high patron of the World Health Summit.
Global health and health equity continue to be among the most pressing issues of our times. Let us work together and try to make a real difference for global health in 2022.
Stay safe and healthy!

Health is Key Priority of German G7 Presidency
At the beginning of the new year, Germany took over the Presidency of the G7. The motto: “Progress towards an equitable world”. One of the five major goals is "Enhanced preparedness for healthy lives".
"Global health policy is about more than just pandemic control. Antibiotic resistance increasingly threatens patients' treatment options worldwide. And we are exposed to new health risks on account of climate change. We need to find solutions to these challenges as well. Here the G7 should take on a leading role", says Karl Lauterbach, Germany's Minister of Health.
Theses topics will also be central at the G7 Health Ministers Meeting on May 19-20 in Berlin.
